A board foot is a measure of the volume of a piece of wood, similar to a measure of the volume of a solid concrete in cubic meter. Example of computing a wooden volume is: 2″ thick x 4″ wide x 12 feet long wood = 8 board feet. Computation: (2″x4″x12′) divided by 12= 8bf. A correction of liner feet, instead it should be in linear feet or foot. Linear foot is the length of any wood, bar, or any solid thing like rod measured in number of feet which is 12 inches per foot. A rod of 8 feet long is called 8 linear feet long.

ft relates to distance between 2 points. For example a line that is 2ft long. ft2 relates to area – on a flat surface. For example a square that is 2ft by 2ft has an area of 4ft2. ft3 relates to volume – in a three dimensional form. For example a cube that is 2ft by 2ft by 2ft has a volume of 8ft3. hope this helps.
