There are several key differences between violin and fiddle music. But remember that the difference is in the playing, not in the instrument.

-The goal of violin music is beauty and power. The goal of fiddling is danceability.

-Violin music is often harder to play than it sounds. Fiddle music is usually easier to play than it sounds.

-Violin performance takes more strength and concentration to play than fiddle music.

-Fiddle music is usually improvised in part. Violin music is rarely improvisational.

-It’s easier to learn how to fiddle than how to play violin.

What company makes it, who they market it to, and how much it costs. That’s pretty much the only difference between a “fiddle” and a “violin”.

Rita’s right. They’re the same instrument. It’s just called a violin for classical and orchestral music, and a fiddle for country/bluegrasss/etc.

It’s a violin if it’s used for “classical” music (long-hair kind, it was know as back in my day) and a fiddle if it’s being used for folk or country music.

no longer something in any respect. A play around is purely an casual way of bearing on a violin and many times ability that that’s a miles less costly version yet incredibly famous violinists sometimes consult with their extremely high priced violins as their ‘play around’ in an ironic way.

If you play classical music, you are playing on a violin. If you take that same violin and play “country,” you are using a fiddle.

Octave…the interval of eight diatonic degrees between two tones of the same name, the higher of which has twice as many vibrations per second as the lower.
