Have many versions about these costum of use code for the first letter of the words. All is basement in two things:

1- Take clear for confirm de correct word normaly used in comunication at long distance, by radio, phone and others than used the sound.

2- In oposite take a confusion for peoples thath don´t know the (linguage) code used in a comunication.

About the alfabet that you told I think was first used in the second word war by the USAF for take a confusion by the enemyes (Germains and Japaneses) doing association for confirm the correct first letter at the segund world war used in the American Indians (Navajos, I supose) becouse before that the enemyes was doing the traduction of comunication betwhen airplanines pilots, or the base radio and frustredin the atack planes, or shutting the airplanes in the coordenates exactly where it was.

Please pardom me my English isn´t so god, I´m learning by use the Yahoo answer.

Bye.

Alphabet is the right spelling. This phonetic spelling started to be in use when the communications started during the war. It’s mostly used in military, airports, and even over the phone. That so no error is made.

That is a military code for the letters in our alphabet:

A=Alpha; B=Bravo; C=Charlie; D=Delta; E=Echo; F=Foxtrot; G=Golf; H=Hotel; I=India; J=Juliet; K=Kilo; L=Lima; M=Mike; N=November; O=Oscar; P=Papa; Q=Quebec; R=Romeo; S=Sierra; T=Tango; U=Uniform; V=Victor; W=Whiskey; X=Xray; Y=Yankee; and Z=Zulu.

It is also used by the FAA for airplanes, etc.

Alphabet, as it is correctly spelled. Alfa, bravo, charlie…….are call signs used to clarify what letters are being delivered so you don’t mistake a c for a b. They are used in the military that way all the time.

First alphabet is the correct spelling. What you are asking about are radio call signs first used by the military – I think- The names after the letters are used to prevent misunderstandings of messages.

First, it is “ALPHABET”, from the greek letters Alpha & Beta. What you are refering to is sometimes called the phonetic alphabet, wherein the first letter of the word is the letter being refered-to. this is widely used when listing a string of letters to avoid confusion twixt letters whose names sound very much alike.
