What does “Trust” mean to you? And what would Nicollo Machiavelli say about trust?

Lets look at stray cats 4 a min. Some may come right up to you, many others will avoid you. Their behavior depends on their experience w/people. One cat may have had positive while the other had negative. If this is an issue of trust, It seems to suggest to me that the “intellectual” definition should be: “Where one attempts to mentally predict anothers behavior based on past history.” Is this true? and if so, taking into account that no one can trully “predict” anothers behavior with 100% accuracy, is it a fool who is trusting? because we can never trully “predict” behavior in others?

By “Trust”, I understand firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing.

Machiavelli’s assumption, that human nature is fundamentally flawed, is also reflected in the need for brute force to attain practical ends. Complete trust and faith in one’s subjects is not sustainable
