what does this word mean?
someone told me i was “anal” or acting “anal”… i’m not sure what it means.
i’m not sure this person even knows what the word means… lol.
anyway, i do know they weren’t referring to “butt” or anything like that.
so does anyone out there know?

The person was referring to anal-retentive, an expression that means you are almost like a perfectionist — obsessing over details and wanting everything to be done your way.
The origin of the phrase, I believe, comes from Sigmund Freud, a famous psychologist.

It comes from psychology. The history of it is in child rearing. If you teach a child that pooping is naughty in your potty-training attempts, they will become anal-retentive where they want to hold onto their excrement. They are controlling and meticulous people and can become neurotic. That’s the theory anyway.
So when someone calls you anal, it is short for anal-retentive, which does have its history in “butt” terminology, but really has to do with you being very strict about how things should be done according to your opinion.

Rainbows have always brought a smile on my face…its a sign of optimism and joy when the sun shines in the horizon after a heavy down pour…i still remember during my school days i used to run towards rainbows trying to find out where exactly it is located and take a closer look at the beauty of nature. Anal in this respect means that you are set on something. you can’t change your mind on how it is done. Can’t quite explain it, in a hurry. but it is as if to say. Cindy is anal about her house work. I has to be done just right.

Acting “anal” refers to the word anus which is basicly your “bum” for a better word. So if you are acting anal you are acting like an @$$.
