prep means preparation party and you have to get there around 5:45-5:55ish and yea dats what it means i guess

That means that there is a party…. but there will be a preparty … a party prior to the party at 6:00. If you want to be there when it begins… be there around 10 minutes to 6:00.
Kind of like when you go to a wedding… you have the wedding then the reception but so that all the guests can arrive on time for the reception there is usually a cocktail hour or some intermittent party in between.

Somebody is having a party before the party. That way everybody will be completely drunk BEFORE the party even starts. I like to get to parties a little late – maybe 10 to 20 minutes, because it is so awkward to be the first and the host has to entertain you.
