It means like in politics, talking about a bunch of people, you know, “social, political and educational change” is the main way that phrase is used…

“Politic” can mean such things as being “prudent.”

but i’d stick with defining the whole phrase of two words.

“Politically correct” is a phrase unto itself.

Being politically correct, otherwise known as “pc” came into popularity a few years ago. It means that you go out of your way not to say words which might potentially offend someone, deliberately avoiding offense language or conduct that deliberately avoids giving offense, e.g. on the basis of ethnic origin or sexual orientation. Which is great in theory. However it has long since become a joke. Don’t say mailman, say mailperson, don’t say anchorman, say anchorperson. This week Black is out; now you are supposed to say “African American.” Next week it will be something else.

When the sense and meaning of language is lost because of an obsession with being “politically correct” it is time to get a grip.

Politic has more meanings…

If you look at the root of politics, you can see the root of “polite” in there too.

Politic (singular) means smoothly agreeable and courteous with a degree of sophistication.

If someone says you are not politic, they are saying you are uncouth, indiscreet or otherwise handle yourself badly in public situations. If someone says you ARE politic, then they are saying you are tactful.
