what does the word ‘period’ after a sentence mean?

I see the word period being mentioned after particular statements or sentences. What exactly does this mean?

eg.

it emphasizes the previous point. A similar phrase would be “end of story”

As used in your example it means; this is my belief and i am sticking by it.

Until Paul decided to differentiate between Christianity and Judaism, Christianity was merely a sect of Judaism. Jesus was viewed by the first Christians as the Messiah, which is not the same thing as God incarnate…well, no more than any other prophet anyhow. Christians today exalt the flesh body Jesus to God’s place rather than a kind of mediator, by worshipping him under the name Jesus as if it were the same as saying God. It is considered a kind of acceptable idolatry, but to the first Christians, this would have been viewed as exactly that: idolatry. If Jesus did indeed rejoin his father then what was Jesus is now merely a symbol, and God is just God. The one-ness of God is still adhered to by those who still practice the original Christianity. They’re called Ebionim which means “the poor ones” and some of them still live in Israel today.

This is the answer. Period.

It means…no argument. End of conversation. It’s one way of getting in “the last word.”

This usage is derived from how the period is used as punctuation to mean “end of sentence.”

It’s not exactly a distinguished literary technique, but it is a good parental tool, right up there with counting to three and time out.

it sort of finalizes the statement. “Cool.Period.” It’s hard to explain, but it emphasizes what you mean and that you mean it in exactly that way, nothing more, nothing less.
