“-est” means “most”, roughly.

For examples: Biggest, fastest, strongest, weakest.

In these examples, you could substitute “most” instead of “-est”. Most big, most fast, most strong, most weak.

If you are the “-est” of something, no one is more than you at that thing, by definition.

Est Suffix

It’s the superlative ending for a word. If there is one really great book, for instance, it can only be “great”. You need 2 of something for comparison before one can be better than the other. I have 2 books–one is great, but the other is even greater. In order to use the -est ending, you need more than 2 of something. My library is filled with great books, but the one I checked out today is the greatest. For some words, you have to use “more” and “most” instead of the suffixes -er and -est. Ants are annoying. Fleas are more annoying. Head lice are the most annoying of all.

FYI, you can not have anything that is more or most unique. This is one of my pet peeves. Unique means “one of a kind”, so nothing can be more or most unique because you can’t have 2 or more of something there is only 1 of in the universe. Trust me.
