I making party invitations and it says r..s.v.p. but what does that stand for?

It means that you need to call the hostess and let her know if you are attending or not. It is so she can have a complete count for the party.
If you do not know what it means, and you are making the invitations, perhaps your guests don’t either? If you want a full headcount, you may consider putting “Please respond with you intentions to”. A lot of people now don’t get it. It’s the height of rudeness NOT to rsvp, but if they don’t know what it means….
