What does “dozens” mean?

I am not a native speaker. I know that it means “a lot,” yet I wonder if saying “dozens” instead of “hundreds” indicates a smaller amount of something. Thank you in advance.

when you refer to “dozens” you are talking increments of 12; but you don’t use an “s” afterward. you have 1 dozen of eggs or 5 dozen eggs without the “s” at the end of dozen. when you refer to “hundreds” most of the time its money. you can have

10 hundred dollar bills which would be 10 “hundreds”. I hope this helps.

“Dozens” isn’t a specific number, but indicates a large number, two dozen or more, but less than “scores,” which would be 40 or more. It’s used to indicate an approximate amount, and left up to the reader or listener to decide how to interpret it.

One “dozen” is 12 of something like a dozen donuts. When you say “dozens” you are saying that it is a number of something….maybe 48 or so…over one or two dozen…so could be 36, could be 48, could be 60…it is an “estimate” of a lot of whatever you are referring to.

a dozen is twelve, but when someone says there are dozens of something, it probably means less than a hundred.

a dozen of eggs means 12 pieces of eggs so if it´s referring to “dozens” then it means many in 12´s set.

A dozen is twelve. So if something is several dozen, it means that you are counting by twelves.

What a wonderful question. Religion is, of course, the form that one’s worship takes. Thus there are thousands of forms. Religion includes a system of religious beliefs and practices. The object of the religion may be false gods or the true God. Hence, there is false religion and there is true. Religion can get very fancy or remain simple. In the former case, such as it is today. In the latter case, such as it was in the Garden of Eden. What then is worship to me? How do I worship? To worship means to obey. And to obey means to worship. The two are intimately connected; indeed, they are coterminous and cannot be separated. Specifically, to obey the Sovereign Lord God Jehovah of Armies is to worship Him. I do my imperfect best in this regard. I fall on my face and get back up to try and try again. In the Garden of Eden, so long as they obeyed Jehovah, Adam and Eve were worshiping him. No temple, no Mosaic Law, no meetings. Simply leave the tree of the knowledge of good and bad alone. Simple. The minute they disobeyed, they stopped worshiping Jehovah. Same with the nation of Israel. The minute they attempted to practice a syncretistic religion they stopped worshiping Jehovah. The minute they made the golden calf, they stopped. And on and on. To worship is to obey. To obey is to worship. Hannah J Paul

I agree with most answerers, unless they are baker’s dozens, which are sets of 13.
