What are wellies?
I was watching a rerun of the Graham Norton show on BBC America and he mentioned people at a concert buying wellies. It sounded like he was talking about adult diapers is this correct.

Yes, you’re getting the right answer. “Wellies” is short for “Wellingtons”, which is what Brits call those boots.

They most definitely are NOT adult diapers. They are what some people would call galoshes. Wellington boots are worn by country folk working with the horses at the stables, the high rubber boots keep the associated animal waste products from soiling your good shoes or boots.
You would likely hear it as “Angus, get yer Wellies on and muck out the stables.”

Wellies are what the British call rainboots. Burberry makes Wellies, and they’re cuter than the ones you can find in the US. Usually, wellies have a cute pattern on them.

No. Wellies are those knee-high rubber boots that people where when it rains. They’re called galoshes over here.
