What is ‘met department’?

I believe you are talking about contrails. They are from high flying jets, probably civilian. You don’t hear them because they can be as high as 6 to 7+ miles up.

They could also be military, but it’s less likely. There simply are a LOT more commercial airlines flights than there are miltary.

By the way, contrails are caused by water condensing in the turbulance created by the plane’s passage. It doesn’t always happen, the conditions need to be right.
