Sophisticated words, when used by an unsophisticated person, just sound stilted and silly. Use your own vocabulary creatively. All words have both a definition AND a connotation. It’s unlikely that you’re going to find just the right word by thesaurus-diving. Read more, learn more words in their proper context, and you’ll be able to use them properly later.

Just type in a simple word at dictionary.com and click on “thesaurus” and it will give you a long list of “sophisticated” words with the same meaning.
Like for example if you type in the word “drunk” it will give you fancier words like intoxicated and inebriated…that is, if your essay is about alcohol, which it is probably not.
But anyways, here’s the link: http://dictionary.reference.com/

I would get a thesaurus and when you come across that word that is commonly used, find a better upgrade
(I can’t give more help, as I haven’t seen the essay)

There actually isn’t from now on precise word than jerk for that. it relatively is the top definition of jerk. Being impolite and stressful with the aid of being stupid. from now on state-of-the-artwork word than jerk isn’t as close to to the top meaning you desire.
