I suppose sarcasm has been around forever, but–YES, I’ve also noticed that it has become much more POPULAR in maybe the past 10+ years. Rap and Hip-Hop Music have HELPED it become more popular than ever. I guess this would be why I do NOT listen to any of this garbage. I, personally, do NOT approve of ANY form of it, and see no reason to ever use it. Sarcasm is basically cruelty towards another person. I just have to wonder how long it will take (probably forever) before people begin to realize that flattery and/or acceptance is much better and will get you much farther in the world than being sarcastic or making degrading remarks towards others.

I’m guessing it’s been around as long as mankind has. I thought it was cool to be sarcastic when I was younger, but as a middle-aged person I rarely use it. I think it is a slight form of cruelty.

Sarcasm is the most cruel form of wit … and it is also the most effective. Sarcasm is by nature reductionist, it reduces things to small samples. Sarcasm also requires a strong command of whatever language it is being used in. I think this means that sarcasm might soon die out as the language becomes more commodiified, IMO
