1) No of people who drinks coffee and/or tea = 53 – 10 = 43

No of people who doesn’t drink tea out of these 43 people

= 43 – 36

= 7

This means that only 7 people drink only coffee.

Since 18 people drink coffee, 18-7 = 11 people drink both tea and coffee.

2) No of pupils who can only spell parallel = 15 – 5 = 10

No of pupils who can only spell pythagoras = 14 – 5 = 9

No of pupils in the class

= no of pupils who can spell only parallel + no of pupils who can only spell pythagoras + no of pupils who can spell both words + no of pupils who can spell neither

= 10 + 9 + 5 + 4

= 28

Seems like all the answers were wrong so let me help out.

53 at school -10 that don’t drink either means there are 43 students who drink either tea or coffee.

Since there are 36 tea drinkers we only need 7 coffee drinkers to complete the 43 people who drink. So we subtract the the 7 from 18 and we find that 11 people drink both tea and coffee.

For the next question all we have to do is take the 15 students who spell parellel and subtract 5= Which 10 students.

Then take the 14 students who spell pythagora right and subtract 5 which = 9 students.

10+9 +4 who can neither spell and we got 23 pupils in the class.

Hope this helps.

1) 53 total people subtract the 10 that drink neither, leaving

43 that drink either coffee tea or both.

36 tea drinkers +18 coffee drinkers = 54. But only 43 drink coffee or tea so

54-43=11 that drink both.

2) 15 +14= 29 – 5 that can spell both =24 + 4 that cant spell=

28 students in the class
