Resonate with?

“Perhaps the only compelling thing about this idea is that it resonates with good auto maintenance know how. To many people, plasma displays are like cars: You know how to use them, but you don’t know a whole lot about how they work.”

What does phrasel verb “resonate with” mean in the sentence above? I’ve looked up its meaning on some dictionaries but I can’t find any certain explanation that I can fix to this sentence.

Help please.

Other ways of saying it include “rings true” or “strikes a chord,” meaning that the concept in question jives, or agrees, or sounds similar to a concept that the writer is already familiar with.

Using it that way is a bit of a stretch, but not too bad.
