Question regarding sentence of probation?

last week i got sentenced to 5 yrs. of (formal probation) I got sentenced in the past to felony probation, where probation officers had the right to show up unexpectedly at my residence with the right to search and seize! just curious of what this type of probation means? Do i have to report monthly? Do i have to fill out forms monthly? Judge never referred to probation in the past as formal! What does this mean? And what does it consist of?And if i violate what happens? I signed a plea bargain for 3 yrs. state prison but was granted probation! He said (Formal Probation) Please help me better understand what this exactly means? Thank you!

You really need to ask the probation dept this. Weren’t you required to head over to their office after court so they could get you in their system and all that?

I’m taking a wild guess that formal means supervised probation (“formal probation” wasn’t a term used in the probation office I worked in) as opposed to unsupervised or administrative probation. Supervised generally means you have to go to appointments as determined and scheduled by your supervising probation officer.

I really advise you to call your probation office and ask what you need to do next (or call your probation officer if you’ve been assigned one).
