First, this had me thinking what were you thinking, but I’ll give it a try.

#1. I could be considered the subject of the thought that she

has asked herself. When I diagrammed the sentence I

broke it down by your commas. phrase, clause, clause.

so I came out to be the subject of your second clause.

This is a seriously complex sentence.

#2. Would and Be are verbs, again with the complex

sentences. Would and be is the verb phrase for the

second clause of the sentence. not is the adverb.

#3. Although is used as a conjunction in this sentence

because it connects the two thoughts of her giving away

the zucchini and the mound frightening her.

#4. The word She in this sentence is the subject of the main

clause.

1. “I” is a personal pronoun. It is the subject of the sentence, the one who is “doing” the thinking.

2. “would be” is a verb, specifically a modal verb (because of “would”), The verb is the part of the sentence that does something.

3. “although” is a conjunction. After it there is a subordinate clause (sentence within a sentence) “she gave hundreds of zucchini away”, then comes the main clause “the enormous mound left over frightened her”. The conjunction puts the two sentences together into one and shows the relation between them.

4. “she” is a personal pronoun, like in 1.
