Meaning of “do you have a life”?
i asked a question about something relating to my job, which is being a family doctor in the US, and someone answered said, “Do you have a life?” I am taking the literal meaning, but what does it really mean.
i have a life since i am typing, breathing, digesting food, getting drowsy, etc.———that is what i think he/she meant

Sounds like you devote much of your life to working. “Do you have a life?” implies that you have no life outside of work. Do you have a social life, hobbies, etc?

If someone asks you if you have a life, they could be saying several things…that you work all of the time, that the perceive that you work all of the time…or that you seem to have no private life.
There really are a lot of people who do nothing but go to work, then go home to recuperate from work, then go back to work, then go home to recuperate. That’s the kind of lifestyle they are referring to when they say you have no life.
This could also refer to anyone who does one thing excessively. Tiger Woods might have no life outside of golf; video gamers may do nothing but play their games. Hence, they miss a lot of other stuff that goes on in the real world.

They probably were asking if you do anything besides working. “Do you have a life [outside of being a physician]?”
