Through this quote, Smith does a great job explaining no matter how hard one tries to forget those terrible experiences there will always be some recollections that just cannot be forgotten.

Leave the comma after quote,

insert “that,” after explaining and

insert a comma after experiences

Through this quote, Smith does a great job explaining that, no matter how hard one tries to forget those terrible experiences, there will always be some recollections that just cannot be forgotten.

Pardon me but it is grammatically incorrect. Allow me to present a correct usage – Through this quote, Smith had a great job in explaining those unforgettable and terrible experiences however no matter how hard he tried such events are not easy to forget.

grammatically correct. You can delete the comma after quote, though, and insert a “that” after explaining

I think a “that” after “explaining” would make it flow better. I would probably add a comma after “experiences.” Hope that helps.
