Is there anyone else who is sincerely bothered by the fact that Yahoo is called…Yahoo?

It’s a great site but I’ve always been bothered by the name. Does anyone know where the name yahoo originated. Did anyone ever say the word yahoo before the site came about?

I don’t know the roots of the word, but it’s been used as an exclamation for years. In recent years, it seems to have morphed into “woohoo!”

Lemme see if I can find an article on how the site/name originated. 🙂

This is what I got:

Yahoo was founded by Standford University graduate students Jerry Yang and David Filo in January of 1994 and incorperated on March 2, 1995. The company’s headquartered in Sunnyville, California.

The name:

First, they created a webside called “Jerry’s Guide to the World Wide Web” was renamed “Yahoo!” Jerry and David said it’s because they love it’s definition.

Yes people did say it. Sometimes if your having fun, you yell “Yahoo!”
