You make up loads of different types of cryptic clues based on several techniques.

1) anagrams (there are plenty of sites for those)

2) synonyms – again plenty of sites

3) juxaposition of words leading to an answer within the words

4) puns – think them up

5) Using the first letter of each word in a sentence to make the answer, starting the clue with ‘initially’

6) Doing the above but using the last letter and ‘lastly’

7) So many more…….look at a cryptic crossword and its answers on the following day and work out how it was done. It’s fascinating to study and even more fun to concoct.
