Is there a name for a technique that’s the opposite of personification?

I’m looking for an antonym for literary personification, but can’t seem to find one. What I’m looking for is the use, by an author, of language to make a living person inanimate. Does that make sense to anyone outside of my brain?!

How about: Objectify

To objectify something is to “present [something] as an object,” (even when it’s not an object).

Here’s an example provided by Wordnet:

“Pornography objectifies women”

Here’s an example provided by Dictionary.com:

“Because we have objectified animals, we are able to treat them impersonally.”

By the way, I chose the word, “objectify,” because it has the same suffix as “personify,” (with respect to your question), and their meanings seem to be opposites.

(Is this the word you’re looking for?)
