Is their another way to say the word ‘as’ ?

I’m a romance writer for fanfiction.net and i seem to be having a problem because whenever i write anything i seem to have a tendency to write the word as, REPEATEDLY and i wish to change that, so if someone could please give me some type of a list of words that can replace as? Please answer. iT would greatly improve my writing.

It seems that you are writing as in place of when or while. One way to avoid this, other than varying the words, is to vary the whole way of getting your reader to visualize these actions. Rather than telling the reader, show the reader. Do not stop to explain so much to the reader. Allow the plot to carry the tale. Also, vary your sentence length. Sometimes writing a short sentence to demonstrate an action is more poignant.

It kind of depends on how you use it in the sentence (now that I have been thinking of it there are a bunch of ways to use ‘as’) – can you give an example of a typical sentence of yours with an ‘as’ that you’d like to replace?

Here are a few ideas that might help ….

As he hadn’t been paid yet, he delayed his resignation —-> Since he hadn’t been paid yet, he delayed his resignation.

As she was sleeping, her anger faded —-> While she was sleeping her anger faded.

He called in sick, as he wasn’t feeling well at all —-> He called in sick, because he wasn’t feeling well at all.

Or as (lol) Serena above me says, ‘like’ is a good replacement if you are comparing things.
