Actually, here in the US we write 20/20, but I suspect it’s an English/Metric thing. So 6/6 would mean that you can see at 6 meters (20 feet) what an average person can see at 6 meters.
By contrast, 6/12 (or 20/40 in US parlance) means that you can see at 6 meters what an average person can see at 12 meters (i.e. you’re nearsighted).

It is just a means to explain “normalcy” in one’s eyesight. Here in the United States, it would be 20-20 which is normal.
