I’m writing a script and I wanted to know how to word something.?

In my scene, a character tries to get someones attention. Do I put a question mark or no question mark. For example is it 1. (John? (pause) Are you you coming to lunch?) or 2. (John. (pause) Are you coming to lunch?)

it would be the first one. any other wording would change the inflection. John? Are you coming to lunch? would read differently than either John, are you coming to lunch? or John… are you coming to lunch?

It should be written as, ” Hey, John! ( no pause ) Are you coming to lunch? “

YOU WOULD WRITE IT AS: “JOHN, ARE YOU COMING TO LUNCH?”

It depends on what kind of intonation you want on the word “John”. Either one is fine.
