How would you personally define Rock n’ Roll?
In the early days of Rock n’ Roll, the word meant a certain type of beat….you know, “Let Me Take You On A Sea Cruise”…that kind of stuff. That all changed in the 1960s, when so many styles came into being.
So, how would you define it? What is the essence?

Funny you should ask- earlier today I was at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland OH. And my definition was changed. It includes a wider variety of music. Heck at one point, I thought it meant having a guitar. But it’s more than that and less than that at the same time. It’s music that embodies the time, I think. It isn’t the fluff stuff you forget about, but the real riffs and beats and lyric that resonate to your core.

properly. Punk and metallic are the two that stand out. They have been the 1st 2 important branches of rock and then those broke off into even smaller branches. i’d desire to flow on yet there are too many sub-genres to checklist.

I believe that the term was originally ghetto talk for copulation.
Personally, I find it puerile, overwrought and cacophonous. Let the “thumbs down” begin.
