How do you say the name ‘Saoirse’?

It’s an Irish girl’s name. Saoirse means “freedom”.

Yes, you’re right, it’s “seer-sha”.

There are other ways to pronounce it, depending on the Irish dialect. Some people might say something closer to “sair-sha”, for example. But “seer-sha” is the way I say it 🙂

It is like Sare-sha. I have a friend whose grandaughter has that name. When I saw it printed I thought just like you did…..how the heck do you pronounce that. It’s a beautiful name.

it’s odd to name a child something that always will have to be spelled out for people, and if seen written first, pronounced. like siobhan (chivonne).

in other news, celtic should be the new world language! it’s even harder to read and spell than american english!
