How do you pronounce the street name: Cirby?
I live nearby a street thats spelled “Cirby”. There has been some heated, in-depth debate as to its pronunciation. Can anyone give me a definitive answer to its correct pronunciation?

There is no definitive answer on how to pronounce street names. Many streets are named after people, and those people got to choose the pronunciation. In Sacramento, CA, we have “Goethe Park”, and people want to pronounce it like the German poet, but the family that donated the land pronounced it “gay-dee”. Nearby, in Roseville, we also have a “Cirby” street. People think it should be “sir-be”, but it was named after someone who pronounced it “kir-be”, so that’s what it is.
The right way to decide how to pronounce street names is probably to do some research on where they came from.
