When I was in 7th grade, an English teacher gave me a rule to help me remember the difference between “its” and “it’s”: You don’t have an apostrophe in “his” or “hers” for the posessive, and “its” shouldn’t have one either if it’s going to be posessive.

Thanks Mrs. Bean, wherever you are!!

“I noticed its entity” is grammatically quite right. But what do you mean by “entity”? Look for another word.

Its. (no apostrophe)

The sentence with ‘it’s’ (with the apostrophe) would read:

I noticed it is entity.

The best way to remember the difference between its and it’s is as this:

If the “its” means “it is” then it is “it’s”.

If the its is belonging to something, then it’s “its”.

It’s = it is

its = possession

You can only use it’s if it is a contraction. Otherwise, use one without apostrophes.

You have it right the way it is.

the answer is: its.

it’s is actually a contraction for “it is”.

more examples of contracted words: she’s for she is. he’s instead of he is.

Just as you put it. ‘Its’ is correct; ‘it’s’ is a contraction of ‘it is’ or ‘it has’ and therefore wouldn’t make sense.
