Honor vs. Honour?

If I hand in a paper to my AP English teacher with honor spelled as honour, he marks it wrong, and I say I’m correct in my spelling, who would be correct? Granted, honor is the accepted American English spelling, but honour is correct in British English countries, so does that make either incorrect in the other’s country; its all English is it not?

If your classes are in America, spell it honor

If your classes are in the UK, spell it honour.

Is it worth making a stink over, if you know your teacher will mark it wrong. Pick your battles. This one is not worth it.

It’s basically much the same way as you spell center and centre. To be right your teacher has to either be:

a) Canadian or British

b) Doesn’t care

c) Pretty lenient about this

A better solution: Run both words through Firefox’s dictionary (if you have it; if you don’t, then do word). Choose whichever one says its right. If you’ve already checked an AMERICAN dictionary then go with what it says!

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

When in America, spell it honor.
