Looking up the definitions of your choices in a dictionary will help you choose the correct answers.

But regarding the last question, I think both answers could be correct. A booming economy means that people will have more money to spend. They would spend more money to eat out (need more waiters) and they would spend more money to buy books and magazines (need more writers). So whenever there are two correct answers, you will have to determine which is more correct than the other. If people have more spending cash, do you think more will eat out rather than buy books and magazines?

I hope you are able to figure out the correct answers.

I think everyone else has answered the last two correctly. But the first one should be rugs.

Explanation: Rugs have more vlaue than rags. Rags are tattered material. A rug on the other hand denotes something of value. Something of value is not what you would expect to see a hobo with. Of course, rugs also would weigh more and would be more cumbersome for one person to carry.

However the most important factor would be the value. A rug is more valuable, and therefore less likely to be in the possesion of a person who is destitute.

Ok to dispell the last one, you need to think in terms of economics. Books are a less expensive that eating out at a fancy resturant. Writers however actually do better when the economy is poor. This is true because human nature looks for immediate gratification. Eating out is a luxury that provides faster gratification than reading a book. Therefore human nature dictates that when one has a little extra money, that person will almost invariably eat out as opposed to sitting down to a long book that may take several days to satisfy the spirit.

Drilling is the correct answer to #2. I was a solgier. Grilling would be fun in comparison to have to do drills in the heat. :O

I’d say rags. What are rags for? Rugs you can use to sleep on if you’re homeless.

Recruits drill with a drill sergeant.

Writers. Waiters don’t get popular, really, and why would they have trouble finding work? It’s entertainers (like pop writers) who are advantaged specifically by a booming economy.

The first one… I want to say Rugs. That would be old, seeing a hobo packing around a Rug.

Drilling. Grilling would just be weird.

Waiters- there are plenty of writers.

rugs: You would expect to see a hobo carrying rags, but anyone would look odd packing rugs.

drilling: Recruits are known to hate drilling.

writers: Writers depend on popularity. Waiting tables isn’t a popularity contest. It’s just hard work.
