Do you ever wonder who started those cute little chat phrases?

I mean, where did acronymed words like LOL, ROFL, or BRB come from? I just learnt them from my friends, and they probably learnt it from others, too. Makes me think on who came up with them. Penny for your thoughts?

I think they started with text-messaging, and have spilled over into computer-messaging, and message-messaging will soon take over on portable phones as well as cells… can you see it? We will all just say ‘lol’ instead of actually laughing out loud, or ‘idk’ instead of I don’t know… that makes me laugh out loud, to picture that! ;-}
