20 Sept will mark the end of my tenure as the … and of my full-time professional activity. It has been a remarkable final 2.5 years.

But one of the most rewarding features of my job, without any doubt, has been the warm and confident relationship I had the privilige to establish with you and with many other high level officials. I would like to thank you very much for that, and to ensure you that I will keep the memory of this relationship in my heart.

I am sure that you will maintain this excellent working climate with my successor who takes up his duties on ….. As I will not completely leave theise community, I hope I will have the opportunity to meet with you in the future.

Well, the peronalization as to particulars will have to be done by you. But I believe something such as the following would be appropriate.

Dear Sir (name):

I appreciate the letter you sent regarding the end of your tenure. It has been a privilege working with you these past x amount of years. The benefits you’ve brought to this department through your efforts in the areas of…….. and …… will be felt for years to come. I, personally, have learned a great deal about …….. from working alongside you.

Your replacement will be welcomed with enthusiasm. I am sure you’ve done a lot to allow for their transition into this position with as much ease as possible and am looking forward to assisting them become familiar in this new role and supporting them as they grow in this field.

It has been an honor working with you and I look forward to your presence and valuable input on our various projects in the future. Please know you have my respect and heartfelt wishes for continued success in all your future endeavors.
