Correct grammar?

Should it be 3/4 or three-quarters in this sentence?

Basically should I spell it out?

—We will cut the plank three-quarters the length of the table.

It depends on what subjects.

In English, you should.

In Maths and Science, no, you shouldn’t, it would be clearer to use numbers.

What I mean is, if it’s a more about literature subject, spell it out. If it’s a more about numbers subject, no.

I would say ‘three-quarter’ is used as an adjective while ‘three quarters’ is a noun phrase. 3/4 can mean either.

So, in your sentence, I would say ‘We will cut the plank three quarters the length of the table.’
