Can you please explain this to me… Pronouns ‘I’ versus ‘me’?

I live in Australia and a new television program has recently started called “are you smarter than a fifth grader?”

Adults are asked typical primary school questions and make a particular amount of money based on how many questions they can answer correctly. One of the questions tonight was:

Complete this sentence:

“Darcy spoke to Max and ____”

with the options being

I

me

my

I answered “I” as did the contestant on the show but it was wrong. Apparently the answer is ‘me’

Can anyone explain this to me? I was always taught to use “I” in this sentence form… Darcy spoke to Max and I.

You need to see how the pronoun is being used in the sentence. Use objective case — “me” if it is the object (after the verb), or after a preposition, as in the case you mentioned. Use “I” (nominative), if it is the subject of the sentence: “Darcy and I spoke to him,” or if it after an inactive verb: “It is I.”

This is a good link to an explanation with a few examples. The correct answer was ‘me’. As said previously, when in doubt take Max out of the equation.

Darcy spoke to I.

or Darcy spoke to me.

Me is correct. The way to tell is take out “Max”. Darcy spoke to me (not I). See?

me is a word that is usually used at the end of the sentence for example My sister and I went to the park. But My sister went to the park with me

I is the the first person Noun but ‘me’ is the indirect object coz someone spoke to Max and you, that is, me.
