I rolled onto my side, reaching for the squawking alarm clock, but instead of hitting the snooze, my hand smacked hard against the table. I must be tired, I thought vaguely, if I can’t even hit the snooze button. I sat up and fumbled at the silver box, finally getting it turned off. Just as well get up, I told myself tiredly. I’m half way there, now. With a sigh, I heaved to my feet, but instead of lumbering off to the bathroom, I felt myself miss the first shuffling step, like the floor had tilted out from under me, and I fell to my knees, catching myself as I my left elbow and forearm hung up on the bed. I was suddenly having trouble focusing, and my head began to ache as the light from the window struck my face. A bitterness at the back of my throat warned me that I’d better get to the bathroom or I would be changing all the bedding. I clutched my stomach and struggled up to my feet again, steadying myself against the bedroom wall with my right shoulder. The floor was still moving underneath me, but I made it to the bathroom door….
