My interpretation is that the speaker is saying if we’re all just going to end up dead (dust and shades of gray), what’s the point of even living? The speaker is obviously not a happy person; otherwise, he/she would not refer to life as “endless days”.

I think it means that everything in our life is full of hardships and difficult challenges that whats the point of going through it and suffering so much….but this is more of like a personal opinion…it depends on how you look at it

We will eventually die and end up as dust, so there is no reason to live.
I reject this sentiment and replace it with one of my own.
