can someone please give me an ambiguous sentence?
Favorite Answer
“Tom carried his torn shirt to Frank, and he sewed it up.”
This sentence is ambiguous because the reader isn’t sure if it was Tom who sewed the shirt, or Frank who sewed the shirt.
“Tom and Frank went to a party, where he was given a red hat.”
Again, the reader isn’t sure whether it was Tom or Frank that received the red hat. For that matter, we can’t be certain it wasn’t a third person that received the red hat.
“Mary told Angela that she had to go home.”
Here is another example of an ambiguous sentence. Who had to go home? Mary? Or Angela? We don’t know because the sentence doesn’t give enough information.
I hope this helped clear things up for you.
“Man eating shark”,
“Don’t let it drop”
“Don’t stop”
“Give me a hand”
and the funniest of them all…
“Texas State Troopers don’t have balls”
(reply to woman driver when she asked if she could donate money to the Texas State Troopers Ball).
Why doesn’t she go BUY it?
