Metaphors are comparisons that show how two things that are not alike in most ways are similar in one important way. Examples may include “Brian was a wall, bouncing every tennis ball back over the net.”

Foreshadowing is a literary device in which an author drops subtle hints about plot developments to come later in the story. An example of foreshadowing might be when a character displays a gun or knife early in the story. Merely the appearance of a deadly weapon, even though it is used for an innocuous purpose — such as being cleaned or whittling wood — suggests terrible consequences later on.

An Oxymoron is a figure of speech that combines two normally contradictory terms. Examples may include “Act natural” “Bitter sweet”

foreshadow- an indication or a suggestion of something before hand… when an author subtly suggests that something is going to happen…the only example off the top of my head is romeo and Juliet…in one scene Juliet says something to the effect that she thinks she sees the bottom of a tomb when she is looking at romeo…and her mother or father yells at her something like…may your bridal bed be your grave…(dont quote me…but i know its there) and we all know how this story ends…so all that suggests that a death will take place…

oxymoron-placing together contradicting terms….

act naturally, found missing, pretty ugly, freezer burn, the list goes on and on…

look up these terms with romeo and Juliet on google or something…the play is filled with all these devices….obvious
