for me personally, Good bye is more final like good riddance(but in a nice way) for example… used to an ex you don’t want to see again “Good bye!”

bye is more informal used to a neighbor or friend or whoever, and having the meaning of “see you later” sort of thing.

In business I have used both goodbye as well as bye – goodbye to the ones I don’t care for so much and bye to the ones I liked.

Although I strongly suspect this isn’t how most ppl use it 😛

There’s no difference. It’s just shorter and easier to say bye. Good bye sounds a little more formal.

Good bye is an affecionate farewell.

bye is a statement of farewell that is devoid of emotion. (say,to a person you are only being polite to)

Speed, laziness, more casual, younger?. “Bye” is short for “Goodbye”, “goodbye” is short for “God be with you”.
