“Backward” or “backwards”?

What’s the difference between “backward” and “backwards”?

You can use either, just be consistent.

In other words, don’t say, “We went forward and backwards,” or “we went forwards and backward”. Instead, say “forwards and backwards” or “forward and backward”. Consistency, man.

i think its “s” for singular and no “s” for plural

eg

singular: He went backwards to retrace his steps.

plural: we went backward in time when we visited the museum.
