Are “Fuss” and “Fuzz” the same?

Can I interchange them? (ex. I don’t want to give a big fuss/fuzz about it)

No, they aren’t the same at all. Fuss is a synonym for “commotion”, or sometimes “upset” (as in “The baby is fussy.”). It can be used for someone who is very concerned with tiny details (as in “My aunt is so fussy — she thinks everything has to be perfect down to the last detail.”).

Fuzz means “covered with fine hairs”, as in “peach fuzz”, or “a fuzzy blanket”. It can also mean “blurry”. Fuzz is also a slang term for the police (“I got pulled over by the fuzz.”). Fuzz is also a term used in music for a distorted guitar sound (as in “fuzzbox” or “fuzztone”).

So while the fuzz (police) can be fussy (overly concerned with details), The words “fuss” and “fuzz” don’t mean the same things.
