No. The are only as difficult as you want them to be. Find others to study with, you will be able to talk through and figure out anything. Math courses there are fast paced. You have to keep up with things so that you don’t fall behind and find this huge, insurmountable mound of work to do before finals.
The difficulty in college only comes when you decide that you have something better to do with your time.

BYU is fast becoming a top school which by default then, makes the courses just a bit tougher than at a junior college, for instance

No more difficult than most colleges. Utah does not have the greatest public school system (lowest funding in the nation, last I heard) but many locals attend the University so there is always a way to catch up. If you’re from another state you should have no problem. If you’re from Utah, you will survive if your head is in the right place.
