Would it be a mistake if I changed majors?? Please I need advice from you.?

I am currently a Business Marketing major and have about ten or eleven classes left until my degree. I have been thinking about changing to Criminal Investigations or Criminal Justice. I hate to lose all the business courses I have already taken but am starting to doubt working in the marketing field. Would it be a good idea to just change majors now or just finish up with the marketing degree and then tackle the CJ program??? Any personal experience stories would help so I don’t make a bad decision on the outcome of this. Thank you all!!!

I majored in Communication and have spent the past 3 years working in public relations and I’m deciding it’s not for me. I’m debating going back to school and getting a second bachelors in math.

Around my junior year of undergrad, I briefly considered dropping my Communication major and/or picking up a math major. But, I quickly decided against it because I wouldn’t graduate on time. And now I feel like instead of just wasting 3 years of college, I wasted 4 years of college plus 3 years of working!

So, if you are interested in the other program, take classes in that program. If you decide it’s not for you, you can always switch back to what you are doing right now. But it’s better to test the waters now and figure it out than to wait another 4 years and have to go back when you feel so far out of the game (and you are married and have to think about “family”). You’re young, explore your options now while you can. That’s what college is all about. It’s not like you’ve already started working and grown accustomed to a certain salary that you’d have to give up to go back to school (like me).

If you are getting a Pell Grant (or other financial aid based upon the fact that you do not have a bachelors- don’t get the degree and start over). Those undergrad grants and scholarships stop once you have the degree.

However, see if you can do a double major – and even change the marketing to general business and you will be doubly employable.

You got a long life ahead, complete your degree, you are so close. It is always good to have different degree’s under your belt. Now when that is complete, Start a new degree from the same college so most of the credits apply towards your second degree. You will just be taking courses more related to the new degree which will make it fun. You are not loosing anything that way. You are gainning more opportunities.

Why are you having doubt in Marketing? It sounds like a better career choice than CJ. You should definitely finish the school first before you consider another career. Wait until you are in your 30’s then you will be tired of your job and looking for something.

Finish your major and do the CJ as well. Hopefully you will still graduate without having to wait a year.
