Work or Degree?
Favorite Answer
1. Do you like to study?
2. If yes, do you like any particular subjects?
3. If no, is it because you are more interested in subjects that are not offered in your school?
After you have decided that you do/do not like studying, then you should consider whether you want to start work. Try the following questions:
1. Do you see yourself working all the way (for years to come)?
2. Do you aim to study in a college after you have worked for several years?
3. What is the aim of working now compared to working a few years after college?
When you have answered the above two sets of questions, I suggest you sit down and evaluate your answers. Ask yourself if you are really interested to work now, and what is the motivation to do so. Also ask yourself what is the motivation for you to consider college studies also.
It is better to ask these questions rather than to apply for college, or to work straightaway. If you can work towards a set of goals, all the more you will feel motivated to continue on in life.
1. What do you want to do for a living?
2. How old are you?
3. Do you have money for a degree?
4. If you don’t go to college, what will you do?
5. If you work instead of going to college, will your job be able to provide the lifestyle you want for yourself and eventually for your family?
College is not for everybody, and not all high-paying jobs require college. Technical school or apprenticeships are two very good ways to obtain training for excellent jobs in a growing number of areas without having to go to college. Many plumbers, electricians, etc., are better paid than teachers or other careers requiring college. If you don’t believe it, just hire one of those guys to come do some work for a couple of hours!
