Will the grade you got in a community college effect your chances of getting into graduate school?

lets say you finished 2 years of community college and transfered to a cal state then you want to go on and go to graduate school, lets say USC but could be other places as well, BUT the grade you got while in the community college wasnt very good but your cal state grade is exellent, will this lower my chances of getting into graduate school? can i still get into a graduate school?

It can, depending on the program. When I applied to law school, all of the grades I’d recieved from all colleges were used to calculate my GPA. If the rest of your grades were strong, it probably won’t matter. I had some really, really bad grades at a cc but still got great offers w/scholarships from top 10 law schools.

i don’t think it will decrease your chances. first, most grad schools require the GRE or some other kind of standardized test. study really hard and do really well on that. secondly, when you apply, send an extra letter with your application explaining your poor grades (maybe you were working, maybe you had family/personal problems at the time, maybe it wasn’t a subject you were interested in pursuing long term). i got an F in undergrad once but still got into great law schools.

not if your cal state grades were good, of course it decreases your chances of getting into better grad schools.
