Your credentials all look good except for one thing…your SAT’s are weak. I know for most high schoolers a 1900 would be great, but for someone looking to apply to Stanford, you need at least a 2200 to be safe.

They reject people with SAT’s over 2300.

Good luck though, it is a great school.

Don’t rely heavily on it. Go to Usphere.com for more personal advice. You have to show you are more than a test score. I had similar stats and did not get into Yale. Both Yale and Stanford are competitive. Try also www.collegedata.com–I used that to help me find some other choices. You can get a full ride though–www.hamline.edu, and then you can take classes at any college in Minnesota on Hamline’s buck, or hey study abroad. Best of luck–Hamline is a good school and I am very satisfied there.

Hm, don’t rely too much on your GPA. Stanford does not look for students with only high GPA’s and a high SAT score. You should somehow stand out to the adminstrators of Stanford that allow students in. Your personality must be interesting, and you have to have a passion to learn. One of the most important papers that is needed for acception is the letter from your counsler and teachers. You also need to do a great job on your essay. Really show who you are and don’t be afraid to show off everything you know.

It’s really random, I just applied this past semester and I got rejected to Stanford, but into Harvard and other good schools. Let me tell you some of my stats:

Rank:4

GPA: 100.9

SAT: 2330

All AP’s

Football

500+ hrs of community service

Texas State Mathematics Champion

Various other awards, clubs

Hope that helps, and good luck

Wouldn’t it make a lot more sense to ask Stanford admissions, rather than this group of strangers with no expertise?

yea ur pretty set. but with alot of the top tier competitive colleges even if you qualify youre competing with 4 other equally qualified ppl (less than 20% acceptance) for one spot. you gota have sumtin dat makes u stand out like community service or in ur case jrotc. but id say its all a matter of luck. i had a 3.5 unweighted, about 6 or 7 AP’s that i got 4 or 5, great reccomendations and 1500 (3 yrs ago) and i got into hopkins over 2 of my friends who had similar stats but close to 4.0. varisty sports, community service and other stuff helps alot. Gettin into a good school is alot about luck but there are activities you can do to improve your odds.

I am was recently admitted to Stanford University (Class of 2011) and I rejected MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Yale, and Cornell (in addition to a couple others with much lesser repute) for this highly regarded institution. My application included (but was DEFINITELY not limited to):

– Establishing and providing over $5,000 in funds for an inner-city orphanage in India

– Traveling to Iraq, Lebanon, Gaza, Jerusalem as well as Kenya, Uganda, and Somalia on peace missions

– Working with the Peace Corps, Doctors without Borders, and the Red Cross internationally and domestically to raise money and awareness

– Volunteering in homeless shelters, hospitals, burn wards since the age of 10 (also includes raising $7500 for Tsunami Relief in Indonesia as well as $2000 for Hurricane Katrina relief)

– Teaching sign language and braille to the deaf and blind, respectively

– Serving as a tutor since the age of 9

– Working at a suicide hot-line and built houses for the impoverished

– Maintaining a 5.0 GPA throughout my entire high school career (this was accomplished by having “Straight A’s” as well as taking college classes.)

– Scoring a 2370 out of 2400 on my SATs

– Scoring straight 5s on all 20 Advanced Placement Tests that my (public) high school offered

– Attending Youth Leadership conferences in Washington D.C.

– Winning the school’s MVP in Girls’ Crew and Tennis

– Founding and/or Serving as president for such clubs at my school like the Advanced Physics club, I <3 Pi, National Readers, Science Club, Mock Trial, Key Club Intl., Amnesty International, the Environmentalist Club, and the Asian Club Additionally, I was Valedictorian, class president, statewide artshow winner, officially recognized by the Senate for my accomplishments, and I am fluent in six different languages excluding English (Vietnamese, French, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Punjabi and Latin). I am also an accomplished pianist, cellist, bassist, and guitarist. To date, I've written four published thesises and I am currently writting and illustrating a children's storybook. It actually doesn't matter if you merely take AP tests and are members of clubs-- but unless you show profound leadership, stupendous volunteer work, immense intelligence, and an overall desire and passion to succeed and actually contribute to society, the best schools in the nation won't even bother with you. They want the best kids in the nation who have the ability to balance excellent grades and test scores with those qualities listed above.... Oh, and your question should say, "I have a 4.5 GPA..."
