Which undergraduate degree would prepare me best for the LSAT?

I want to become a lawyer, but I’m not sure what my undergradute major should be. I know you can major in anything and get into law school, but which would be most benefical? I am currently [[as fall 2007 classes begin]] a Political Science major with a minor in Criminal Justice. Should I reconsider my major / minor?

I would suggest changing your minor to philosophy. A politcal science/philosophy combo is a perfect combination for Law, unless you want to get into intellectual property law, in which case you will need to major in a science or egineering discipline. For the LSAT the best class you can take is logic. At most schools this class is taught in the philosophy department.

Philosophy is the best major to prepare you for the LSAT and law school. It emphasizes critical thinking and argument, which basically make up the content of the LSAT. Before you change your major, however, you better be sure you want to go to law school. There aren’t any big philosophy companies out there looking for new graduates.

Everyone seems to think majoring in English is neccessary for law. Poli Sci is fine…take an LSAT trial test now (from a prep book) and see how you fair. You may be pleasantly surprised! I took the LSAT trial test as well as the MAT the summer after I graduated high school and did well enough to get into grad school had they been real tests. Minor in anything that interests you, you’ll get better grades in subjects that hold your interest. Good luck!!

No college class will prepare you for the LSAT. When its time you can take a LSAT prep class given by Kaplan or Princeton Review.

Actually, not any of the ones you mentioned. The best ones would be either English or Philosophy. I would tell you to major in English….
